Mogo South Coast NSW Australia - Local History
The township of Mogo was born during the days of the Australian Gold Rush in 1851. Although the gold has all but gone, local fossikers still come up with good colour, especially after a good dump of rain.
The Mogo village remains and is now a major tourist destination especially because of its proximity to Batemans Bay, Moruya, the south coast beaches and the major tourism attractions of Old Mogo Town and Mogo Zoo.

Australian native birds abound and sing in the Australia's Bush Orchestra walks near Moruya a half hour drive away. Vast areas of the NSW South Coast of Australia are now part of the National Parks system with a wide variety of defined wilderness areas which offer many bushwalks and bush trails.

Many joke of the area as Canberra's beach. The journey up the Kings Highway over the Clyde Mountain to our Australian national capital takes you through Braidwood and Bungendore.
The history of these two towns is linked to the South Coast because of the Corn Trail (now a popular advanced bushwalk) and the nefarious activities of the Bloodiest Bushrangers of Australia, Tom and John Clarke. The Clarke Brothers ranged through the New South Wales triangle of Braidwood, across through the Araluen, down to Bega and North to what is now Batemans Bay.
Captain Cook named Batemans Bay in 1770, after first sighting the East Coast of Australia at Burrewarra Point South-East of Mogo.
